Request

Public chargers in the UK, including ORCS. In order to understand the impacts of these subsidies on EV adoption, we are interested in getting information on the locations of the chargers that have been funded under ORCS. I wanted to kindly ask if there is a list of projects funded under ORCS and charger locations in your region, and if so, if it was possible to access that information. Additionally, is there any available information on project applications or the process of choosing charger locations?

Question 2

Process of choosing charger locations ?

Answer : The following list below illustrates the criteria set out by OZEV for selecting car parks where charge points were to be installed.

•An explanation had to be provided as to why the local authority was not installing in residential streets.

•Car parks had to be owned by the local authority and situated in/close to a residential area that lacks off-street parking.

•All Car parks must be accessible on a 24/7 basis.

•At a minimum, local residents must be able to access the car parks for free overnight, between 6pm-8am.

•Local authority had to ensure that each ChargePoint had its own dedicated EV bay enforced by a Traffic Regulation Order.

•Where a ‘maximum stay’ time is set for EV bays during daytime hours in a car park, this must be at least four hours to ensure residents have access to a substantial charge.

•Our local authority had to ensure that there was a commitment to keeping usage under review and consider restricting access to only local residents if residents are struggling to access the charge points.

•The local Authority was to produce a communications strategy that raises awareness of charge points among local residents.

A preliminary assessment was undertaken by SDDC to determine the suitability of car parks for charge point installation. The selection criteria are listed below :

•Car park owned by SDDC.

•A minimum of 8 parking spaces required.

•They have an accessible Low Voltage (LV) supply

•The Distribution Network Operator (DNO) connection costs were below £10k.
